Why should I buy my monument from a monument dealer instead of a funeral home, cemetery, or a website?

There are many people who will try to convince you to buy your memorial from them. But only a monument dealer has the training and experience to give you the best advice and the quality work you deserve. Most likely buying a cemetery memorial is something you will only do once in your life, so working with a company that designs and builds memorials full-time will only benefit you. Since this will be a new experience for you, questions may arise that you need answered. You may need the reassurance of checking on your memorial before it is finished. With our company, you will always be able to talk directly to the people who are working on your memorial for those answers.

What is the right type of memorial for my lot?

Some cemeteries have regulations restricting the size, shape or material that you can use for your memorial. It will help you to know this information before you purchase a cemetery lot. This way, cemetery regulations won’t prevent you from using the type of memorial you would like. Our staff is happy to work with you to determine what is allowable at your cemetery and what will look best on your gravesite. In addition to cemetery regulations, your personal taste and budget will be determining factors as to what type of memorial you choose.

If I choose an etching for my memorial, will it ever fade or disappear?

Since granite is one of the hardest surfaces on Earth, your etchings will always be there.  In the course of time however, it may look like it has faded a bit.  Usually a cleaning with warm soapy water and a soft brush will bring your etchings back to looking like new!

How much does a monument cost?

The price of your memorial depends on the materials you choose, size, color and add-ons.  It's important to remember that you get what you pay for.  Don't settle for sub-par quality to get a lower price.  Your memorial is meant to last through the ages.  Once you've answered a couple questions about your preferences, we can give you a better idea on price.

Can I purchase a monument even if we plan cremation?

Of course you can, and we highly recommend it!  Cremation is steadily gaining popularity, and it's important to think about where you want your remains to rest.  Choosing a burial sight or columbarium insures your family will have a place for reflection and remembrance.  It also allows geneological information for future generations.

How long will it take before my headstone is installed?

We generally say it will take 4-6 weeks after you have approved all drawings.  This is merely a guideline as some special shapes, custom artwork, and etchings could take up to 180 days.

Can you walk me through the monument purchasing process?

We offer a very personal, specialized product, and no two customers approach this process the same way.  At Franklin Monument, we can adapt to your comfort levels and move as quickly, or as slowly as necessary to make sure that you and your family are comfortable with all your decisions.

Generally, folks will stop in the shop and browse our large indoor display and photo albums to get an idea of what they would like. We will walk you through the process of choosing colors & embellishments & show you how to truly personalize a memorial.

Second, Kevin or April will complete a custom, color drawing while you wait so you can see almost exactly what your monument will look like.

If the drawing, and price are acceptable we require signatures on the drawings after you have double & triple checked dates & spellings.

We require at least 1/2 of your total as down payment, and the rest due before your memorial is installed at the cemetery.

We strive to make the process as simple as possible for everyone as we know this is already a difficult time.

Some of my family members live out of town, how can I include them in the design process?

Technology allows us to send color drawings by e-mail to other family members.  We are happy to offer this service as well as conference calls with out of towners.  We also have been known to make evening & weekend appointments for families who are visiting from out of town.  We try to be as inclusive as we can for out of town family members.

Things you should know about Cemeteries

There are different rules & regulations regarding headstones and monuments.  Before you buy a cemetery lot, ask what kind of monuments are allowed.  Franklin Monument is a good source of information on cemetery policies in our community and surrounding areas.
